Music Theory I is a course that teaches you the how and why of music.
You learn music fundamentals, writing harmony, writing music for voice and instruments, and music history along the way.
This course is great for someone who is interested in music, writing their own music, or plans to study music after high school.
If you are a band, orchestra, or choir student, I recommend taking it junior year when your schedule begins to have more free spots for electives.
Music Theory II builds on Music Theory I fundamentals and expands into form and analysis. In other words, if you want to know how someone built a car, you get a car and take it apart in order to see how it's made. We take music apart to find out how it was composed.
This course is highly recommended for those who plan to study music in college.
If this is you, I would recommend trying to take this course senior year so the information is fresh in your mind for your first year of college and college level Music Theory I (or Level II if they offer placement tests!).
