Wind Ensemble is our highest level Band Class and is the class every band student should strive to be in by their Senior Year of High School. In this class, you will have the most opportunities to perform for the community and other school events, and you get to perform some of the best music there is!
Many students worry about the audition for this class. DON'T! If you do what you're supposed to do (practice regularly, learn your fundamentals, and work hard) in middle school and / or Symphonic Band, you should not have any trouble passing your audition.
The audition consists performing a solo piece, 8 scales that you're supposed to mostly know coming out of middle school, and sight-reading.
Another factor is how well you listen to instructions while you are performing your audition. You may be asked to perform the solo in a different style for a few measures, just to see how well you make adjustments. After all, when we're rehearsing a piece, you have to be able to make those adjustments with everyone else so the performance is just right. Right?
So don't be afraid to audition. I want you to do well and will help you all I can. Auditions are officially held in March every year, but you can audition at any time by simply asking me for an appointment. It's that simple. The audition materials are below.
